It is a very cute book and at 209 pages, a quick read. Perfect for light, fluffy, summer reading.

from the PROLOGUE:
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a thirty-something woman in possession of a satisfying career and fabulous hairdo must be in want of very little, and Jane Hayes, pretty enough, was certainly thought to have little to distress her.

There are minimum copies available at the Hawaii State Public Library. (Maybe 3 copies)
I also have a paperback of Austenland I'm willing to loan, but it's still on it's way in the mail.

For ebook purchase:
available on Kindle for $8.57

available to listen iTunes for $12.99

Austenland has been made into a movie! We are awaiting the release date for Oahu. And then we'll plan to attend the Movie Matinee!

Book Jacket Summary:

Emmeline Thistle, a dirt-scratcher's daughter, has escaped death twice-first, on the night she was born, and second, on the day her entire village was swept away by flood. Left with nothing and no one, Emmeline discovers her rare and mysterious ability-she can churn milk into chocolate, a delicacy more precious than gold.

Suddenly, the most unwanted girl in Anglund finds herself desired by all. But Emmeline only wants one-Owen Oak, a dairyman's son, whose slow smiles and lingering glances once tempted her to believe she might someday be loved for herself. But others will stop at nothing to use her gift for their own gains-no matter what the cost to Emmeline.

Magic and romance entwine in this fantastical world where true love and chocolate conquer all.

I love that last line!!

AnguiSH by Lila Felix 7/24/2013

This was my July book club pick and I'm grateful to Cortney for hosting and for reading the book! Her sister Kelly, too! And glad you were able to make it Krystal. This was a funny discussion. There were many quirky quotes and cheesy lines. Angish was an underlying sweet story with a lovely happily-ever-after.

Now for the future we have a game plan! There are a couple of fun books and a movie involved!

For August we will be reading Austenland by Shannon Hale

from goodreads.com:
Jane Hayes is a seemingly normal young New Yorker, but she has a secret. Her obsession with Mr. Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, is ruining her love life: no real man can compare. But when a wealthy relative bequeaths her a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become realer than she ever could have imagined.

Decked out in empire-waist gowns, Jane struggles to master Regency etiquette and flirts with gardeners and gentlemen;or maybe even, she suspects, with the actors who are playing them. It's all a game, Jane knows. And yet the longer she stays, the more her insecurities seem to fall away, and the more she wonders: Is she about to kick the Austen obsession for good, or could all her dreams actually culminate in a Mr. Darcy of her own?

From Shannon Hale's Blog:
This book was made into a movie! This super cute movie comes out either on the NY/LA release date of August 16th or wide release on September 27, 2013. And we as a book club are attending! Stay tuned for further information

For the month of September our Book Club pick is The Sweetest Spell by Suzanne Selfors

APRIL BOOK CLUB MEETING May 1st

Book Club for April is coming up on Wednesday the 1st of May at my place :) For the month of April we've chosen:
The Devil Colony by James Rollins.

The Devil Colony: A Sigma Force Novel

This book is a HIGH adrenaline rush. It's loaded with action and is a heart-pounding adventure. The Devil Colony by James Rollins probably should come with a warning *not for the faint of heart* There is a bit more Adult Language and Violence than in a lot of books we've read as a book club. So if you feel adventurous you've got a week to read this 496 page book!
I just checked The Devil Colony at the Hawaii State Library, there are multiple copies available to checkout.
Also available instantly on Kindle for $1.99 or on Nook for $1.99.

I hope everyone that wants to read this one has had a chance to get the book.
And planning ahead for May we will be reading The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman

Edenbrooke by Julianna Donaldson 3/27/2013

On March 27, 2013 we met and discussed:
Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson

Little did I know when we scheduled the book club meeting it happened to be the very day of  Edenbrook's 1st Birthday!
How cool is that? On Julianne Donaldson's website a fan even put together a 25 question quiz.

My copy and all my favorite lines and thoughts. 20+ post-its!
An absolutely enchanting read. I truly loved Edenbrooke. What a beautiful CLEAN romance. I adored the characters.

This is a wonderful treat for fans of Jane Austen.

I smiled in anticipation of reading each page and was rewarded with wit and humor. I could quote dozens of sweet exchanges. And would share them here, however I wouldn't want to give anything away.

To me it was an uniquely original story. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I loved Chapter Sixteen. *The Love Letter*   I will be reading this one again.

Kelly, Cortney, Jamie, Kanoe, Moana, Joy and our copies of Edenbrooke

Our evening was fun as we snacked on salads, cookies and treats, talked about some of our favorite scenes, quotes and got a hearty laugh over the Milk Maid Song.

Great suggestions for the months to come were offered by Kelly - The Devil Colony by James Rollins and Cortney - The Light Between Oceans by M.L.Stedman.

Lost December 12/12/12

What a fun Christmas inspired Book Club Evening! Everyone enjoyed this month's choice,

Lost December by Richard Paul Evans.

Lost December: A Novel

I thought it was a great story in true Richard Paul Evans style. Something we've come to depend on from one of our favorite go-to authors.

As in December's past, we had a cookie exchange that was yummy!

(** totally scrumptious **).
Everyone brought 2 dozen cookies to swap. Cortney brought a variety of delicious treats.

We met at my house and in attendance:
Joy, Moana, Cortney, Ashley, Kanoe, and welcome to Krystal!

Everyone went home with a gift, the book "The Merchant from Bethlehem" by Johan Christian.

Book Brainstorming 11/14/2012

Thanks Cortney for hosting our November Book Club! And a big welcome to Ashley Mafi!
Also in attendance: Jamie, Kanoe, Joy and Moana

We didn't have a book selected for the month. So we had an evening of book brainstorming and tasty treats.
We've missed a few months meeting this year. We've also missed selecting any books for us to read. And so the quote of the night by Kanoe was very fitting:
"Our intentions are perfect"

We had all kinds of books brought up for discussion and most importantly we have a December book club choice:
Lost December by Richard Paul Evans

Lost December: A Novel

A little of the discussion tonight:
Cortney: The Walk series by Richard Paul Evans, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, These is My Words by Nancy E. Turner, Friday Night Knitting Club & Knit Two by Kate Jacobs
Ashley: Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
Kanoe and Ashley and Moana: The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling which we loved to read for book club, too.
Ashley mentioned a book we all thought sounded really interesting but just don't know the name of it or the author. So we have a challenge. What middle grade book was about a boy that would travel to other planets?
Jamie: Sweet Valley High by Francine Pascal
I made mention about one of my favorite book club book that we've read and would love for us to re-read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Our Next Meeting will be held at Joy's Home 7 PM, December 12, 2012....that's right 12/12/12!
